Canadian tenor Josh Lovell, whose voice has been described by the The Guardian as “a handsome sounding tenor with a warm, liquid voice and easy high notes” is quickly gaining notoriety in the world’s most prestigious houses. An incredibly versatile artist, Mr. Lovell’s repertoire spans the Baroque to Romantic periods, as well as modern works of the 20th Century.
In the 2024-25 season, Josh Lovell will return to Teatro alla Scala for a new production of Gassmann’s L’Opera seria as Ritornello, debut at the Rossini Opera Festival as Lindoro in a new production of L’italiana in Algeri, Oper Frankfurt as Grimoaldo in Rodelinda, and Atlanta Opera as Jupiter and Apollo in Semele. In concert, he will debut with the Chicago Symphony in Mozart’s Coronation Mass, the Mozart’s Requiem with Stéphane Denève and the St. Louis Symphony, and a solo concert with orchestra with the Victoria Symphony in British Columbia.
In the 2023-24 season, Josh Lovell performed Ferrando in Così fan tutte with Opéra national de Paris and Edinburgh International Festival, Count Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Bayerische Staatsoper, the Italian Singer in Capriccio with Christian Thielemann at the Salzburg Festival, Medoro in Orlando Paladino with Giovanni Antonini at Teatro Real and Gran Teatre del Liceu, Ernesto in Don Pasquale with Vancouver Opera, and Jacquino in Fidelio with the Canadian Opera Company. In concert, Mr. Lovell made debuts at the Royal Concertgebouw, Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon, in recording and on tour with Les Talens Lyriques and Christophe Rousset at the Opéra royal de Versailles and Theater an der Wien, the Bach Consort Wien for Handel’s Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno, Messiah with North Carolina Symphony and Peter in Handel’s Brockes Passion with The English Concert and Harry Bicket.
